Flynn 5th graders held a tree planting ceremony on Thursday, June 10 on the Flynn playground to celebrate their learning this year and to reaffirm their commitment to working towards a world with justice for all people, regardless of race, gender, religion or identity. In the fall 5th graders designed and carried out a Black Lives Matter flag raising ceremony and wanted to finish the year with a project speaking to the same issues. Every 5th grader painted a river stone with different shades of flesh tone paint, then printed a word or slogan exemplifying their hopes for a better world. The tree planting was a culmination of a unit on soil health and composting. Horsford Gardens and Nursery in Charlotte donated and delivered to Flynn the 20 ft. Sugar Maple tree.
